The Hamilton Christian Nightshelter Trust simply could not operate without fulltime paid Staff; most especially, a Manager.
We also prioritise the upskilling of our Manager and Staff. An example of this in the previous six months is that our Manager completed a Post Graduate Certificate in Professional Supervision. This course has significantly benefitted him, gaining additional skills around overseeing staff and their development, which in turn, impacts on a more positive work environment - with a direct benefit for our guests.
The generous grant received from the Catholic Care Foundation last year made it possible for the Trust to fund this further important study and qualification for our Manager.
Our occupancy rate clearly indicates that a Nightshelter is essential for Hamilton. The critical lack of emergency and boarding and other accommodation in Hamilton makes our service crucial – we are the ‘last hotel’ before people ending up sleeping on the streets. The two emergency Shelters we operate offer the basic human need of shelter, providing a safe and supportive environment for our guests, which in turn, benefits our communities.
