Kids in Need Waikato: A Year of Growth, Compassion, and Community Impact
Over the past year, Kids in Need Waikato has remained steadfast in its mission to support children raised by caregivers other than their biological parents. From April 2023 to March 2024, the Trust distributed 1,619 seasonal care packs, reaching 1,087 children and 455 caregivers—each pack tailored to the child’s age and needs. The December Christmas campaign brought joy to 1,142 children and caregivers, thanks to overwhelming community support and collaboration with Rotary Clubs.
As child poverty continues to rise—affecting 1 in 8 children in New Zealand—the demand for care packs surged by 16%. In response, the Trust expanded its wellbeing programmes, offering respite, social connection, and extracurricular opportunities. New partnerships with organisations like Caring Families and Kindness Collective have strengthened their impact without duplicating services.
Operational growth included a new project and storage shed, a community Open Day with 350 attendees, and the acquisition of a new vehicle funded by Grassroots Trust and Ebbett Volkswagen. Strategic planning is underway to purchase and develop the Trust’s property at 118 Fencourt Road, Cambridge.
With deep gratitude to donors, volunteers, and partners, Kids in Need Waikato looks ahead with optimism, continuing to uplift vulnerable children and their caregivers through compassion, connection, and unwavering commitment. For more information, visit our website or get in contact.
