The funding received by Parish of Tongariro contributed to the running of weekly Tuesday lunches for the community for 30 or so people. It is proving to be “a fantastic outreach to those in the community who require assistance; those who are lonely; those who are in need”.
In 2021 the Parish of Tongariro collaborated with the Taupo Christian Churches Support Hub to reach out to those in the community who found themselves having to isolate due to Covid but who had not prepared a plan for this eventuality. The Parish cooked and froze 300 two-serving meals as part of a care package for distribution at this time.
Parishioners in Taupo held a working bee to cut down trees on the church property and then proceeded to deliver 14 trailer loads of firewood to those in need. These were gratefully received. The group also support the Inter Church Welfare Society Taupo who supplies firewood to needy households over the winter months.
