- Client A is a 19 year old male. He is a victim of extensive abuse which has disassociated him from his family and friends. He had become isolated, depressed, unemployed and suicidal. He had lost a lot of social skills and struggles with communication. He had started abusing cannabis, cannot keep eye contact and showed signs of anger and aggression. He had self-referred which was a big step and a last resort for him in an attempt to get himself right. Funding from Catholic Care has provided counselling and social work for the client. He has been assisted into courses and further education and the counselling has allowed him to address the abuse and impacts. With the extensive support he has received, he has now managed to relocate to his own place and reconnect with a positive member of his whanau. He no longer uses drugs and because of the support he has received he has now chosen a path of helping others and is currently enrolled in a Social Worker degree.
- Client B is a 10 year old young boy who has witnessed extensive family violence perpetrated on other members of his family, his mother and himself by his father. He has seen his mum almost killed by his dad and is extremely traumatised. This has impacted on his school and everything he knows. He has been involved in numerous assaults on other pupils and teachers and avoiding school. The mother referred him to us for support. Since engagement he has had numerous sessions with a male counsellor trying to address his grief and anger issues. With funding from Catholic Care, we provided support for the mother which is ongoing. We have enrolled him into after-school programs with the use of the social worker. He is now attending school daily and has not missed any classes. There have been no further assaults or fights and he has been excelling in the program. The family has now relocated to another region which we also assisted with and have made sure there is ongoing support still for them.
